Call for abstracts

We invite you to submit abstracts for a presentation, poster or workshop addressing the theme of Thriving Together, Imagining Shared Futures.

Format and style of abstracts

Academia-oriented presentations

Presentations based on empirical, methodological or theoretical research projects:

  • Background and purpose: description of the problem, study objectives, research question(s) and/or hypotheses
  • Methods: study design, including a description of participants and selection strategies, data collection procedures, measures, and approaches to analysis
  • Findings: specific results in summary form
  • Conclusions and implications: description of the main outcome(s) of the study and implications for practice, policy or further research.

Practice-oriented presentations

Presentations based on practical case studies or related to policy or education:

  • Background and purpose of the presentation
  • A summary of the main points of the presentation
  • Conclusions from and implications of your presentation for practice, policy or further research.

Poster submissions

Poster submissions require an extended abstract, which will undergo review by the scientific committee.

Once accepted, presenters must prepare a visually appealing poster summarizing their research methods, findings, and conclusions. Posters typically feature graphs, images, and concise text to effectively communicate ideas while encouraging engagement and networking. Presenters can receive immediate feedback during the poster sessions, which will be a one-hour, in-person session.

Abstract submissions for posters must include:

  • A title page detailing the title of the submission relevant to the conference theme, authors, and an abstract not exceeding 250 words.

Characteristics of a Strong Poster:

  • Key details should be legible from about 10 feet away.
  • Titles should be succinct and intriguing.
  • Word count should range between 300 and 800 words.
  • Text must be clear and direct.
  • Bullets, numbering, and headings enhance readability.
  • Graphics, colours, and fonts should be used effectively.
  • Layout should be consistent and neat.
  • Posters should include acknowledgments, as well as the presenter’s name and institutional affiliation.

Foresight workshops

Workshops presenting and practicing methods and tools of futures studies and foresight (participants: minimum 8, maximum 12)

  • Background and purpose of the workshop
  • Overview of the workshop format, methods and tools used, key activities and participant engagement during the event
  • Physical tools and space requirements to be provided by host
  • Preferred duration of the workshop (please note that we will try to accommodate your preference, but we cannot guarantee as we also have to respect the overall conference schedule and timings)

Publication opportunity

The organising committee is pleased to confirm that the European Journal of Futures Research has given the WFSF the assurance that it will host a ‘topic collection’ for peer reviewed conference papers guest edited by a conference session chair*. Further publication opportunities will be made available via the next edition of the Knowledge Base of Futures Studies and a special edition of ‘Human Futures’.

*Note: The EJFR does have author processing fees
